Hodgkinson, Sandra Margaret

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Sandra passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 24, 2021 with family by her side.

Born in Meaford on July 31, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Vera (nee Stephens) Ormsby.

Sandra was the loving wife of 54 years to Claire Hodgkinson, mother of Rick Hodgkinson and Lori (John) Grano. She will be forever loved and missed by her two grandchildren, Noah and Avery. Sandra is survived by her two sisters Verla (Ivan) Cramp-White and Coreen (Jim) Clarke and will be dearly remembered by her brother-in-law, Alan (Christine) Hodgkinson and her nieces, nephews and their families.

Grandma loved her grandchildren with all of her heart; they were the light of her life. She loved, and always looked forward to, hearing about their successes and accomplishments at school and about all of their activities.

EClaire, Rick & Lori…Mike and I were so very sorry to hear about the passing of your wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was such a beautiful, ‘always smiling’, thoughtful person.
She brings back so many fond memories of times together in Little Current (mainly figure skating events.) She was always a main instrument in helping out our local figure skating club in every way, whether it be sewing costumes, or driving girls here and there whenever her services were needed…and especially for our own daughter, Jennifer, (as Jen & Lori were very close friends)…and we were often tied up with going in the opposite direction on weekends with our son and hockey.
One ‘now humorous event comes to mind’…(certainly not at the time)…when we could finally pay back Sandra by offering to drive herself & Lori to a figure skating competition in Timmins.
Needless to say, on the way home, my husband, Mike, (who is known to be a little ‘directionally’ challenged),made a wrong turn, and wondering why the trip seemed to be taking forever going home… then suddenly sees this sign saying “Welcome to Chapleau!”
Now at 11:30 in the evening (supposed to be back by dinner time)…we find a phone booth (no cell phones then), and Sandra calls Claire, and in her soft, sweet voice she says,” Claire, we’re in Chapleau…” ,and very DISTINCTLY he replies… (Claire, who would never raise his voice to anyone) says…”WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IN CHAPLEAU?.”
Sandra quickly replies, “I’ll tell you later…don’t bother waiting up for me! Sandra never did again take Mike up on anymore ride offers…but we always wished we’d got that shirt for Claire saying, “WHERE IN THE HELL IS CHAPLEAU!!”
Claire, Rick, Lori & Family… our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to you at this time. She will always be part of our treasured memories.

We are thinking of you at this difficult time and send our sincere condolences.
I have fond memories, from years ago, of seeing Sandra at Ormsby family celebrations, and always looked forward to having a chat with her when I went to Barb’s Clothes Closet and she was working there.
May your treasured memories be a comfort in the days ahead.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I have fond memories of regular sleepovers at the Hodgkinson house, and of eating Sandra’s delicious homemade casseroles. I was always amazed at the hand-knitted sweaters and ornate skating dresses Sandra was able to make for Lori’s figure skating. Sending love and condolences to Claire, Rick, and Lori.
