Baxa, Solange Fernande 'Sally'
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of my beloved mother, Solange “Sally” Baxa (née Pitre), at the age of 85, following a brief illness in Meaford, Ontario, on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Sally is survived by her daughter, Joanne (Paul); her grandsons, Michael and Liam (Taylor); her great-granddaughter, Blaire; and her brother, Denis (the late Aline). She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Eric; her brothers, Norman (the late Suzanne) and Daniel; and her parents, Adelard and Jeanne.
Born in Noelville, Ontario, Sally met the love of her life, Eric, who had come from Vienna, Austria, when they met at a dance in Wolsey Bay. They were married in Windsor and later moved to Michigan, then to Las Vegas, before eventually returning to Canada. Along the way, they created cherished memories and a lifetime of wonderful experiences together.
Sally often reminisced about their travels back to Europe, their shared passion for Formula 1, her deep love of cooking and the many joys of their life together.
She will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, and quiet strength. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created, the values she instilled, and the love she gave so freely.
Though she is deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing that she is reunited with Eric, her soulmate. Together again, their love story continues beyond this life.
She will be forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
We would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and entire staff at Brightshores Health System – Meaford site. Their extraordinary compassion, kindness, and dedication brought comfort to Sally and to all of us during her final days. The care they provided went far beyond what we could have asked for. Their gentle presence, unwavering support, and exceptional care will remain in our hearts and with our family always. We are profoundly grateful to each and every one of them.
Family and friends are welcome to gather to celebrate Sally’s life in the Galleries at The Meaford Hall on Friday, August 28, 2026 from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m.

Today it’s with heavy heats that Lily and I try to write an abbreviated walk down memory lane of our cousins Solange journey.
For myself the meetings go way back to when Solange would walk over from her parents farm to visit her friend my sister Fern.
Fast forward to when I married her cousin Lily. For the next 50 plus years Solange was a constant with phone calls every April to wish happy birthday and updates . Her occasional visits were also special but the most memorable for Lily was a couple of years ago when she came with her daughter Joanne.
Solange never forgot her roots.

Barrie and I have known Sally for 11 years as we were neighbours and friends living in the same condominium building in Thornbury. We shared many glasses of wine ( bubbly ) and conversations. Sally was such a warm and kind person. She always had a smile and took the time to stop and chat. We saw her stay positive and cheerful through her health issues.
We are so sad she is no longer with us: such a loss to our community.
We miss you, Sally.
