Ward, Wallace John 'Wally'

Wally left us suddenly on the morning of January 24, 2025 in his 73rd year.

He was the beloved husband of Nancy for almost 51 years.

Predeceased by his parents Wallace and Marion Ward, and by his sister Shirley Anne.

He will be missed by many family members and friends.  His nieces Lex and Elliat will miss his hugs and quirky sense of humour.  Also left behind is his Bearded Collie Broghan who brought him great joy every day.

Wally worked from 1973-2013 for AO Smith (GSW) in Fergus.

Retirement brought him to Meaford; a favourite spot, to pursue his lifelong passion for fishing.

Special thanks and gratitude to Dr. Burke and the amazing team of nurses and tech staff at the Home Hemodialysis Unit at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener for five years of support.  Special thanks also to Dan and Shawn for being great listeners and friends.  Also, to the Smith’s for all the great breakfast outings, they meant so much.

Wally wished no service or gathering. Cremation has taken place and scattering of his ashes will happen at a later date.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to The Home Hemodialysis Unit at Grand River Hospital or The Kidney Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON   N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.   www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca

Wally took a guy from the Ottawa Valley and tried to teach him how to steelhead. I always appreciated his patience and coaching. I’ll miss our frequent conversations. Sure hope there’s trout in the here after.

Wally was a friendly neighbour with a sense of humour…always upbeat. I’m glad he retired ,experienced Meaford and it’s fishing . He sure loved you Nancy and was never without his dog. Be proud of how you stood by him throughout his health issues.

My sincere condolences to you Nancy and your family on the loss of Wally. It was a shock to hear of his passing and left us speechless. We met Wally and Nancy when they first moved to Meaford and seeing them almost everyday they become like family. Wally loved fishing and then he was a great baker and then cooking I was always amazed at the things he would produce. We will MISS YOU Wally ❤️

    Dear Nan,
Moving away from Elora, one of the things I missed most was my fishing trips with Wally. For all the years I fished, I never saw anyone as good as him on a stream. He was always willing to give tips (which were needed in my case) and he was always a great conversationalist, as well as one of the most easygoing people I have ever met.

He was much loved and well respected by Friends of the Grand River and Ontario Streams. Rest well, friend.
