Weir, William 'Aubrey' Alexander
It is with great sadness that the family of Aubrey Weir announce his passing on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at the age of 89.
Aubrey was the beloved husband of Linda (nee Carter), father of Wendy Weir of Feversham and Darryl Weir (Leanne) of Ravenna.
He was the proud grandpa of Megan, Erin and Jillian Priddle (Wendy’s children) and Owen, Kort and Payton Weir (Darryl’s children).
Aubrey was a son of the late William and Belle Weir of Ravenna and always baby brother to his late sisters; Freda McMurchy, Rhoda Ford and Verna Weir. Survived by brother-in-law, Doug Carter (Josette) of Owen Sound.
Born to farming roots and one of Ravenna’s founding families, Aubrey carried on the family tradition as the 4th generation to continue working the family farm and was so proud that the Weir farm continues in the Weir name. To compliment his full-time farming career, over the years, Aubrey’s knowledge of the “windiest and snowiest corner of the world (Ravenna)” came in very handy as a night-time winter Sander-operator for Collingwood Township and then the Town of the Blue Mountains; a job that he loved because of the many co-workers that became good friends over the years. With his perch on the hill and then the house location beside the Township buildings, Aubrey continued to keep a close eye on the comings and goings on at the township building and even in “retirement” looked forward to his visits with the “boys at the township”.
A Farmer to the end, Aubrey continued to farm and work ground until well into his eighties. In his mind, “Retirement at 85 was just too soon”, unfortunately he just couldn’t manage to get into the tractor. Aubrey was a hard worker but was never one to pass up some fun along the way too! From his early days spent in the Beaver Valley Junior Farmer organization, his days playing ball, his “courting and carousing” days visiting Linda in Meaford, his days on the farm, and right through to his final days at the condo in Thornbury, Aubrey loved to socialize and visit with the many friends he has made along the way. There was always someone dropping in for coffee or a chat. You could always count on him to be one of the last to leave a dance or a party in the Valley! Aubrey was someone who was always helping out others and would put his own duties and chores on a backburner to assist someone else in need. Pulling someone out of a ditch, doing fieldwork for a sick friend, lending out a few bucks, trucking a 4-H calf or blowing snow at 11pm on a Christmas eve, you could always count on Aubrey to help out his family, friends and strangers alike.
Lastly but not least, he was a very proud husband, father and grandfather. He took such great pride in the accomplishments of his family and as much enjoyment in their friends as if they were his own children. His caring nature, humour, wit, and ability to remember absolutely every detail while sharing a story will be greatly missed.
Aubrey’s family thank the Meaford Hospital and the Meaford Nursing Home for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Aubrey and his family during a challenging time.
Family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford on Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 1 until 4 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Thornbury on Monday, July 27, 2026 at 11 o’clock, with a reception following. A service of committal and interment will be conducted at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.

Aubrey was the best neighbour, loved his community, & would do anything for anyone. The end of an era. But more importantly he loved his family & was so proud of all of their accomplishments.

Linda, Wendy, Darryl and All the Aubrey kin. This is the end of an era as this mountains has lost one of the very best. And yet it’s the beginning of another.
