Tippin, William Frederick

"Fred"

The family of William Frederick ‘Fred’ Tippin are deeply saddened to announce his passing peacefully in his 81st year on July 12, 2021 at his home in Meaford surrounded by his loving family and wife Fran.

Fred was born in Collingwood Township on March 23, 1941 to Wilfred and Hazel (nee Skippen) Tippin.

Fred is survived by his wife and soul mate Fran C. Tippin (nee Smith) and by his daughters “Buffy” Elizabeth Robbins and her husband Bill, Karen Galiher and her husband Chris and Krista Tippin and her husband Dave Brak.  He will be missed by his four grandchildren Justin, MacKenzie, Kirsten and Charlize.  He is also survived by brothers John Tippin and his wife Betty, Garry Tippin and his wife Alberta, and by his sister Carol Tabaque and her husband Fred.  He was predeceased by his parents and by a brother James Morton Tippin and is remembered fondly by his nieces, nephews and by his many friends whom he loved.

Fred made many contributions to the community. He enjoyed working on the “Take a Kid Fishing” weekend with the local Anglers and Hunters Club for over 20 years.  Fred loved sports and enjoyed sharing his love and knowledge of baseball by coaching and umpiring many games.  He was a true lover of nature and shared this excitement for the outdoors with his family.

Family will receive friends for a public visitation at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford on Sunday afternoon July 18th from 2 until 5 p.m.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by family only at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Owen Sound on Monday July 19, 2021 with a service of committal and interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.

Please be mindful that all Public Health measures and current restrictions with respect to Covid remain in effect and masks must be worn for both the visitation period and the funeral and interment service.

Fred’s family thanks Dr. Terrana, Dr. Hudson, Meaford IDA Pharmacy and the wonderful medical support staff in the community for the care and compassion they have received.

So sad to hear that Fred has passed. We enjoyed many years with Uncle John and Aunt Betty and their kids to the “Take a Kid Fishing” Derby. We’ll always remember Fred fondly as he always stopped to chat with us. We can’t believe that he’s gone. R.I.P. Fred! Hope you’re relaxing up in Heaven with your folks!

And oh yes who’s gonna run the weigh station up there Fred you or our big old buddy Harold .Boy memories come back as our kids to this day said you made the best candy apples your place was always the first we would visit Halloween night. All those years volunteering with you for the bass derby will never be forgotten.Rest in peace Fred Dave Brown Joanne Hill Emmalee and Keegan

The hunt is done, the fish are safe. I’ve heard some of Fred’s exploits in these sports and of his love of the outdoors. Weather was not a stopper for him from what I’ve been told. I understand he shared my love of baseball, I played until just a few years ago. For Frances our deep condolences in your loss, we have great memories of much earlier times during your courtship and move to Meaford. To Buffy, Karen and Krista we hope the best memories of your Dad will help you through this sad time, and keep his fondness in your hearts.

My deepest sympathies to the family for the passing of Fred. I have many, many memories of Fred. Memories of Fred riding his bike to work at the grocery store, to him always cheering us on at the baseball park. Those many rides to school in Orillia, making Buffy and I be up before the sun and chatting all the way there so we wouldn’t fall asleep! He had the most sly sense of humour and always made people laugh. He would always stop and take time to chat and always had a smile and a wise crack or two ;).

He will be missed greatly but memories of Fred will continue to make us think of him fondly with a smile.

If I wasn’t wearing my red shirt on a Friday and Fred noticed me I knew he would let me know. He has left many of us with good memories & each Friday he will be remembered. Bless you all.

Our sincere condolences Fran to you and the entire family. Fred was both our kids earliest visitors when they were born, setting us up with Insurance. Both our kids, still have the silver dollar given to them. I am not sure our kids knew Fred by any other name but “Mr. T” and wherever they saw him, they would want to say hello to “Mr. T” as he always had a joke (or two) to tell them. Fred was always great with kids, whether baseball, the Fishing Derby or just on the street. Fred was going past our house a couple of years ago while Rick and I were both outside and he stopped and chatted for a while – his humour and demeanor had not changed. We all need someone like “Mr. T” in our life and we are better people due to people like Fred. There will be lots of smiles from fun stories shared in the next little while and hope they will carry you though. Our prayers and thoughts are with all the Tippin Family. God Bless

Bob met Fred at IGA when Fred worked in the produce for Malcolm Ellis and he cut meat for Frank Parrish. That goes back a good many years. At that time his time was very precious as he had just met his soul mate Fran. He had a great sense of humour and we had many laughs over the years. Bob played hockey and ball with Fred and formed a great friendship. For many years our kids enjoyed the “Take a Kid Fishing” spear headed by Fred. All round great guy who will be missed. We are sorry to hear of Fred’s passing. Fred was Mark’s first baseball coach when the Calvert’s moved to Meaford in 1970. He had lots of knowledge and was an excellent teacher. Many fond memories of the days on Margaret Street living across the road from the ball park. Fred loved to sit on the front porch, watching ball games and having conversations with passersby. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
