Cramp, Gordon Alexander 'Gord'

Gordon passed away peacefully at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre on May 1st, 2024 in his 92nd year.

Born in Griersville on January 31st, 1933, a son of the late Clayton and Olive Cramp of St. Vincent Township.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife and mother of his children Gwen Cramp (nee Austin) in 2011.  Upon Gwen’s passing, Gordon met Lois (nee Kentner) and later they married and spent 13 years together.

Gord was the loving father of Paul and his wife Suzanne, David and his wife Peggy, Marcia Cramp, Michael, and Lorilie and her husband Réal Martel. Gordon is survived by 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Gord and his family enjoyed his petstock hobby and were often involved with pets of their own.

Gordon will be missed by his brother Les Cramp (Joan), and was predeceased by his brothers Alvin, Elwood and Emerson, and by his sisters Laura, Grace and Velma.  He will be remembered fondly by his extended Austin family, nieces and nephews, Lois’ family, and his church family.

Gordon will be remembered for his strong morals and values and kind heart. He and his family were always opening up their home to family, friends and neighbours, welcoming them in to share a meal and lots of laughter.

Gordon worked for more than 40 years at Amerock in Meaford.  He was a very hard worker and was well respected by his coworkers.

From a very young age Gordon loved working with his hands. A classic ‘Jack-of-all-trades’, he was quick to offer his expertise, guidance and time.  Gord always wanted to farm and loved being able to help others with their farmwork, especially his brothers and anyone in need of a hand or two.  He helped many family members and friends with building projects and carpentry, happily putting his heart into any projects he worked on.

Church meant so much to Gord, he always did his best to serve the Church and offered lessons to the younger generations. He enjoyed singing hymns with the congregation and visiting with his church family.

Gord will be missed but will never be forgotten.

Gord’s family will receive friends for a public visitation at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford, on Monday, May 6, 2024 from 1 until 3 p.m.  All are welcome to join Gord’s family at the Church of Christ for refreshments following the visitation.  A private graveside service of committal and interment will be conducted at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.

So sorry to read Gord has passed. Many years ago both he and Gwen babysat my children Candace and Drew. They had such great memories of being at their house, seeing the birds, going for walks to throw rocks in the river. The story of throwing a ball back and forth…Gwen would throw it over the house roof to be caught in the backyard. My kids were like any other kid…picky eaters, but not with Gord and Gwen cooking. They ate everything at their house. I can still hear both of their laughter…and they always had something to laugh about. Just wanted to tell the Cramp Family how much their parents were loved. ❤️

Uncle Gordon was always special to me. As I sit here remembering him, most of my memories include his big singing voice, his laugh and that sly smile. I also recall him helping my dad with several home improvement projects (he must have been around 60 when he was helping roof a new addition!?!). He will be missed by so many who loved him.

To: Becki, Holly, Amy, Evan and your parents – (I hope I’m remembering this correctly..) I think it was a family reunion softball game where your Grandpa was the pitcher. It was my turn at bat and I took aim to hit the pitch as hard as I could. Gord tossed the ball to me and “crack” it was a good one and wouldn’t you know it? It hit Gord! I was mortified! I remember his look of shock as he stood there! Thank God he didn’t make me sweat too long before he started laughing hysterically. Like Marnie mentioned – I will also remember his big singing voice at church, his big smile and his joking around. Such warmth from the entire Cramp family is what I’ll always remember. May this memory brings a smile to your face as it did mine as I remember your Grandpa / Dad. Much love from Windsor, Beth

That glowing photo above really captures Uncle Gordie’s joy. He was instrumental in many enduring blessings in my life with that mischievous laugh, his booming voice leading worship, his Bible lessons that stuck- many involving those animals, small and large – his work-worn hands building our house with my dad, his warm investment in my kids in his grandpa years. I’ll miss those ready smiles, tears and big hugs. Looking forward to a great reunion in the Father’s house! Love to all the family, Kathy (Boyle) Hall

To Gord’s family and extended family

It is hard to loose someone that you love but at this time find comfort in the many fond memories
you hold of a father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Remembering playing ball with Gwen and the
Amerock picnic’s and get togethers with the Cramp family and finally having Becki added to my family I feel blessed. At this difficult time I am sending my warm thoughts and prayers that I hope will hold you
    up at this time.

We want to send our sympathy and love to Gord’s family. Since I heard about Gord’s passing, I have had so many memories about being around him. Like so many, I remember his laughter, singing voice, bringing so many of his animals to illustrate lessons at Sunday School. The one that stands out is him leading a pony into the Sanctuary. My Mom and Dad had great times with Gord and Gwen over the years.
Praying God will comfort you as you mourn his passing.

My deepest condolences to Michael , siblings, families & relatives. I fondly remember Gord at the Church of Christ as my favourite smile. Gwen & Gord’s door was always open to anyone who wanted to admire Gwen’s beautiful flowers. My brother in law Norm & sister, Audrey Watson worked at Amerock with Gord. A long standing Meaford resident with a heart of gold.
