Turner, John Patrick

John passed away peacefully at the Meaford Hospital on Monday, October 16, 2023 with his family by his side.

Born in Toronto on March 14, 1951, John was a son of the late John & Evelyn (nee Cain) Turner.

John loved life and always lived it to the fullest.  He was a loving husband, father, papa, brother and uncle.

John was the much-loved husband of Ruth Turner, and was a proud father and mentor to his son Matt, and stepchildren Terria (Rod), Frank (Christine) and Rob (Jade).

One of his greatest honours was being a devoted and loving Papa to Emma, Megan, Cohen, Leo, Leah and Nathan.  They will miss his big hugs, stories, life lessons and his encouraging catch phrase ‘keep smiling’.

Supportive and loving brother to Candee (Rob) Backus and uncle to Jason & Kris. John will be remembered and missed by his family and special friends Cindy & John Becker and Sue Anne Hodgkinson.

John & Ruth had 22 wonderful years together.  They had many adventures including traveling, remodeling a home, and spending time with family.  In their retirement years they spent time in the Bay Islands and Florida.  John was able to share his passion for snorkeling with Ruth and his grandchildren.

He was a master craftsman who loved working with wood.  He produced beautiful pieces of art, pictures made with marquetry and wood turnings.  He made and restored many beautiful pieces of furniture for family and friends.  He loved the outdoors and could often be heard talking to the birds.  His quick wit and humour served him well over his years.  John will be remembered for his love of red wine and colourful shirts.

A celebration of John’s life will take place in the near future at a date to be announced soon.

My sincerest condolences to John’s family, and to all who knew him and loved him, as I did. My heart is truly broken, John was one of the best friends I’ve ever had and the obituary says it all. John was a genius and gentle giant, and a friend who was always there for me growing up. We played in a band together for years and had some wonderful times growing up together in our teens and twenties, I was in the Venturers with him and the band, so I spent a lot of my time at his place with his wonderful family. John was one of the finest men I’ve ever known. R.I.P. John, My Dearest Friend
