Storey, Steven Walter

Steve Storey of Meaford passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Meaford Hospital on Thursday, October 5, 2023 in his 68th year. He will always be admired for the strength and courage he has shown while fighting his cancer diagnosis over the years.

Born in Meaford on November 29, 1955, Steve was a son of Madeline (nee Guy) and the late Lorne Storey.

He was the dear brother of Brenda Gruber (Frank), Barb Murray (Ian), Allan Storey (Chris) and Aubrey Storey.

Steve was the much-loved, special uncle of Mary Catherine Prasad, Diana Maidment, Melinda Dinsmore, Ted Dinsmore, Crystal Storey, Sara Storey, and Jeffrey Storey.  He was predeceased by Aaron Storey and Jennifer Gruber. He will be remembered fondly by many great nieces and nephews.

Steve truly loved Meaford and the people in town.  He was proud to be local and to have grown up on an orchard. Steve put many miles on his shoes walking around town catching up with everyone.  He could talk about the orchards, the fishing and the weather during a short visit on the sidewalk or at Timmies.  Steve worked hard labouring at various jobs in the area.  Fishing was important to Steve and he spent many hours on the shore by the harbour.  He looked forward to his Friday night dinners out with his brothers and Chris, and he absolutely loved the racetrack on Saturday nights.  Steve will be missed by many in our community and will always be remembered as a guy who took the time to ask you how you’re doing.

All are welcome to attend a graveside service at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 1:30 p.m.

My heartfelt condolences to Steve’s family, he used to come in every morning for coffee and breakfast. He did love his fishing and would talk to everyone about the fishing at the harbour and then on Mondays we would hear about the moments of excitement at the track. He will be missed by many.

We will always remember Steve shovelling snow for us at the store “The Shoe Tree” when on Main Street. He would stop by for a chat when going by ,
telling us about his fishing expeditions, etc. Steve will be missed by us all.

We are sad to hear of Steve’s passing. We will miss his visits and chats at The Shoe Tree dearly.
Steve was always there to help lend a hand. From helping to decorate the windows at Christmas, getting our cardboard ready, helping us to move to our new location, or shoveling the snow never missing a day.

My boys grew to know Steve, and looked forward to hearing about the races at the speedway, he always made sure to drop them off a race schedule. We always tried to meet him there once a season.
When Steve went out for dinner on the weekends he was always sure to grab an extra candy from the dish to bring and share on Monday mornings. He was always thinking.

We will miss all his funny story’s and most of all his smile in the community.

    Thinking of you all.

I was so very saddened to learn of the loss of Steve. He stopped into the office regularly for chats, and always had a story to tell. Even on the days he didn’t come in, he ALWAYS waved and smiled as he passed by. He was wonderful and kind soul who will be missed. Wishing peace for the family.

my condolences to my family of course but, everyone needs to remember the good times. Uncle Steve was a kind caring person who always had kind things to say. My Uncle Steve and i weren’t very close but i wanna try to remember the fun times. One of my memories with him was how every time he saw me he would never correctly pronounce my name. It would always be Marissa or Madison. I thought it was hilarious because he knew how to pronounce it he just never did it. Steve and i shared a weird but funny relationship so when i found out he passed i didn’t really know how to react i knew he was sick but i didn’t know i would lose him so quickly. I never even got to say goodbye but i know that hes safe and that he will always watch over me. I loved him so much and its a big loss for everyone but we just gotta remember the fun times. Love u Stevie. rest in peace angel.
